The View of Ancient Orient from the Standpoint of Phoenician Archaeology

紀元前1千年紀、古代オリエントの文明は、東からはペルシアの勢力、西からはギリシア・ローマの文明に次第に圧倒されてゆく。この時期、カルタゴなどを拠点に地中海の覇者であったフェニキア人たちはどういう役割を担ったか。彼らの活躍の証しはどういう遺跡に刻まれたのか。こうした課題に応えるべく、海外4カ国からフェニキア考古学の精鋭を招へいし、日本のオリエント研究者との研究交流をはかる。

This program aims at the academic interchange between the best scholars in Phoenician archaeology from four different countries abroad and the selected Japanese experts in the field of ancient Orient. The program will be focused mainly on the following subjects: how important role the Phoenicians played and where they left their footmarks in the 1st millennium when they were most powerful in the Mediterranean including Carthage and at the same time the long-lasted Oriental civilization was gradually but totally changed into a new stage by the Persian pressure from the east and the newly raised Greco-Roman civilization in the west.

「ホスピタリティ／もてなし再考：文化の視点から」
Hospitality Reconsidered: A Cultural Perspective

近年ふたたび関心の高まっているホスピタリティという問題領域を、ホテルやホスピタリティ産業というビジネス･マネジメントの視点からのみでなく、伝統文化における客人接遇や異人観などの民族、また移姓、移民、市民権などの問題も含め、総合的かつ分野横断的に理解しようとする研究プロジェクト。

The notion of ‘hospitality’ has drawn a good deal of academic attentions in the last 10 years. This research project aims to have a comprehensive overview on ‘hospitality’ from a wider perspective, in the range from hospitality management, industry to the cultural notion of receiving guests, the meaning of strangers, and citizenship and immigration.

「文化遺産の保存と活用―教育・観光・経済振興の戦略的施策―」
Preservation and Utilization of Cultural Heritage - Strategic Measures on Education, Tourism, and the Economic Promotion-

文化遺産の「保存」と、それを「活用」する観光戦略は、活用が過ぎれば文化遺産の保存が危ぶまれる。保存と活用を車の両輪に据えて、効果的に前進できる戦略的手法の確立をめざした国際シンポジウムを開催する。 他方、中国・重慶特別区では都市が肥大化する中で、三峡ダム沿岸に所在する遺跡等文化遺産の保存と活用という大きな問題を抱えている。この地を舞台にした国際シンポジウムを開催し、アジアにおける文化遺産の在り方を討議する。

The ‘utilization’ in strategies for tourism could endanger the ‘preservation’ of cultural heritages if ‘utilization’ overrun. To discuss such problem, we will host an international symposium which aims to establish strategic measures that could enhance effective ‘preservation’ and ‘utilization’ at Chongqing, China. The city holds critical issues regarding on ‘preservation’ and ‘utilization’ of cultural heritages locating around Three Gorges Dam. The symposium will be held at this area, in order to consider how cultural heritages in Asia could present.

World Heritage as Resources for Tourism

世界遺産を観光資源として活用し、地域の活性化・経済振興、さらには教育の充実等を目的とする研究は世界各地で行われている。しかしながら、これらの研究は地域や歴史・風土・文化の違いによって大きく異なってくる。ここでは、中国・韓国・日本のそれぞれの国が抱えているこの種の課題について討議し、東アジア独自の世界遺産の活用技術を構築することを目指す。

Studies on utilization of the world heritages as tourist attractions, for the purpose on local activation and economic promotion, as well as improvement of social education, are carried out in all parts of the world. However, these studies vary greatly according to the areas and the differences in history, climate, and culture. In this project, we discuss on such agendas that China, Korea and Japan each has, aiming to build utilization technologies of the East Asia’s unique world heritages.

「東アジアの儒学と経世済民思想：歴史と現状」
Confucianism, 經世濟民, and the Societies of East Asia

儒学、或は儒教思想の影響の度合、浸透の仕方は、中国、日本、朝鮮半島、ベトナム各々においてそれぞれ異なる。近年の儒学研究は、日・中・韓各々において、思想研究、とくに価値理念形成の基底的要素としての研究の深化が進むと同時に、国家という境界を超えた、「東アジア」という枠組における学術交流、書物交流の様相の解明とそれに齎されるところの思想連鎖、相互性の研究も進展しつつある。さらには、古典中国語の深遠なる理解を必須とする儒学研究の、言語（原語）の詳密な理解のための「言語の学」としての進展に焦点をあてた研究、翻っては儒学を基盤とする経世済民思想の現実社会への影響、実働性の検証を中心課題とする研究も各々進展をみせる。 多面的に進捗する儒学研究であるが、本フォーラムではとくに、儒学思想の社会における実働の様相について、歴史研究、文化史研究の専門研究者を招き、東アジア社会における経世済民思想の実情について考えることを試みたい。

Confucianism, particularly the one developed in Sung China, has often been assumed by intellectual historians as an ideological pillar that casted prolonged and decisive influence in the formation of the thought system in East Asia. However, one must give a cautious assessment in terms of the degree of impact that Sung Neo-Confucianism has had to each of the East Asian nation that represents varied social and intellectual context at different period. This study programme aims to explore the differences of influences of Confucianism, mainly of the societies of Japan and China.

「新大久保多文化地域の民族誌的研究」
Ethnographic Study of Shin-Okubo Multicultural Neighborhood

新宿区新大久保駅を中心とする地域は、200軒以上のエスニックレストランが立ち並び、多文化化・多民族化が進行する特徴的なエスニックタウンとなっている。この地域の民族誌的調査を実施することで、多民族構成の地域コミュニティがどのような可能性と矛盾を抱えているか明らかにし、日本とアジアの関係性の将来を考えるときのひとつのモデルスタディを提示したい。

The neighborhood around Shin-Okubo Station has formed a very distinctive multicultural town along with the proliferation of more than two hundred ethinic restaurants. The ethnographic study of this neighborhood will present a chance of examing the prospect and contradiction of multiethnic local community in Japan, and a model case to discuss future relationship between Japan and Asia.

The last 5 years, The study of lectures and symposium has been held mainly focusing on the leader of NGOs. The main theme was International Corporation and Roles of NGOs of the 21st century in Asia. However, this year these studies will take effects to not only the field of NGO but also another field for leaders.

第1部「インドネシアにおける日本研究及びその教育の現状と課題 ー日本（語）学科を中心としてー
Part1　Japanese Studies and its Education in Indonesia at the Present and its Challenges –A Case Study on Japanese (Language) Department-

インドネシアにおける日本研究及びその教育は、主要大学に設置されている日本（語）学科を中心に展開されてきた。しかしながら、その中心は日本語の研究と教育に集中しており、日本研究と教育の実情は非常に貧弱な状態である。そのため、当シンポジウムでは、インドネシアの大学における日本研究及び教育の現状分析と今後のあるべき方向性について検討を行う。なお、このテーマでのシンポジウムは、インドネシアでは始めて実施されるものと思われる。また、このシンポジウムは、スブラスマルット大学が来年度日本学科の開設を予定しているため、その準備作業のひとつとして当大学からの要請に基づくものである。

Japanese studies and its education have been widely expanding with the main focus on Japanese language and its education established under Japanese language departments in major universities across the countries. This fact has resulted in the very minimum number of research focusing on Japanese studies itself. Hence, in this symposium, we would like to discuss the recent situation in the area of Japanese studies and education in Indonesia and its direction toward the future. We are proud to inform you that this symposium will be the first symposium on the above-mentioned matter to be held in Indonesia. Being the first of its kind, we have predicted that this symposium will draw attention and will carry out important meaning to both Indonesia and Japan. Furthermore, this symposium acts as a stepping stone in preparing for the establishment of the Japanese Department at Sebelas Maret National University in the academic year of 2012.

第2部「伝統文化と現代国家　ーインドネシアを中心としてー」
Part2　Traditional Culture and Countries Today -A Case Study on Javanese Clothing Culture -

インドネシアの伝統文化、とりわけジャワ文化は、ヒンドゥー・ジャワ古代王国の伝統の下で独自の価値体系を反映した文化として世界的な注目を集めてきた。しかし、現代においても伝統文化の学術的研究は必ずしも十分に行われてきたとは言えない。特にインドネシアの国民国家形成の中での伝統文化の位置付けは混乱した状態にある。今回スブラスマルット大学でジャワ文化研究所が設立されることになった記念シンポジウムとして、伝統文化の学際的研究に焦点を当てて実施する。

Indonesian culture, especially Javanese culture, has been acknowledged internationally as a unique culture, representing values and systems found in ancient Hindu-Jawa kingdoms. Unfortunatelly, only few scientific research on this Asian unique culture have been conducted. In Indonesia, traditional value has been inappropriately placed in the nation-building process. In this opportunity, we would like to present you a symposium on recent situation of traditional culture in Indonesia and its challenges with the focus on traditional clothings culture. This symposium is initiated to celebrate the anniversary of the Institute of Javanology at Sebelas Maret National University.
